Steve focuses his governance and volunteer energies in two primary areas.

The first is regional climate and environmental policy, where he spent 16+ years on the board of Climate Solutions, a Northwest-based clean energy economy nonprofit which works to champion and pass transformational policies and market-based innovations in Washington and Oregon.  At various times he served as Vice-Chair; Board Development Chair; and Chairman of that board.  He is also a member of E8 Angels, a Seattle-based community of cleantech angel investors.  Earlier Steve served as a board director of Groundwire, an organization specializing in delivering

information technology tools and strategies for environmental non-profits to use in communicating and building relationships; and on an environment grant committee at Social Venture Partners, a community of social investors.

The second is K-12 public education policy.  Steve was elected to and served on the Seattle School Board from 2007-2011, with stints as Vice-President and President of the Board. He was also twice appointed by Governor Inslee to serve on the Washington State Charter School Commission between 2013 and 2020, chairing the Commission for several years.

Prior to his work in non-profit and public education governance, Steve had a successful 21+ year career with Russell Investment Group in Tacoma that included positions as Chief Information Officer, and later as Managing Director of National Accounts.  He has a BS in Computer Science from Washington State University, and an MBA from the University of Chicago.  He enjoys reading, hiking, and camping with his wife and two daughters.
